Morpeth’s new £32m Shopping Centre: The Sanderson Arcade

“ABSOLUTELY Fabulous – that was the verdict of TV star Joanna Lumley as she opened a new North East shopping development. Joanna, who played shopaholic Patsy in the hit BBC series, cut the ribbon at Morpeth’s new £32m Sanderson Arcade yesterday. Planning for the shopping mall began six years ago and work started in July 2008.

The Edwardian-style arcade with landscaped piazza boasts 90,000sq ft of retail space. It hosts Marks & Spencer, Fat Face, New Look, Waterstones and Laura Ashley, as well as a number of local firms.”

Low Hauxley Nature Reserve

“Hauxley Nature Reserve is situated in Low Hauxley just off the A1068 a short distance south of Amble.Owned by Northumberland Wildlife Trust it has been created from open cast mining comprising of a lake sprinkled with islands.Resident and migrant birds can be seen from the hides with otters and now reds being seen.The reds do not appear to have established themselves in the area and possibly just”passing through” however there may be a link with nearby Druridge Bay Country Park.Facilities include toilets and car park.For further details ring 01665711578.” Morpeth Red Squirrels
