Access Information for Starfish Cottage, Low Hauxley

Introduction
A two storey mid terraced fisherman’s cottage set in the small seaside village of Low Hauxley.
The cottage dates back to the mid 1800’s, therefore has quaint characteristics which are typical of the period.
The cottage is situated approximately 100 metres from the beach at Hauxley Haven and sleeps three adults comfortably.

Pre-Arrival
E-mail and telephone booking is available and the cottage is also advertised on several local holiday websites.

When an enquiry is turned into a booking confirmation is sent on receipt of a deposit, and a comprehensive
information pack is sent to the client.

Transport & Arrival

·    There is one service bus (Arriva) which passes the edge of the village at 8.10am & another at 4.15pm.
These link with buses to Newcastle upon Tyne & Alnwick & the north. Alnmouth train station is approx 4 miles away,
The A1 can be accessed from the A1058 and is approximately 4 miles.

·    There are several taxi firms available – more information can be found in the Cottages information display.

·    Disabled toilets in Amble town centre (approx 1 ½ miles away are situated next to the Tourist Information Centre).

·    There are also several small supermarkets (Co-op, Tesco express) & all local shops situated in Amble, as well as pubs,
cafes, restaurants & petrol stations.  There is a greater choice of supermarkets & shops in Alnwick (Sainsbury, Morrisons
& Iceland, approx 9 miles to the north) & Morpeth (9 miles to the south). Delivery of groceries can be arranged with the
individual shops own delivery service.

·    There is also an on-line local service www.foodlocalfood.com which will supply & deliver to the cottage.

·    On Arrival by car – A large private parking area is situated immediately opposite the entrance door to the cottage.
(The owners garage is situated behind this area & non-vehicular access is required to this at all times)
The route from the parking area to the entrance is a level gravel covered surface.
There is one step up to the front door onto a natural stone wide step.
There is another small step across the threshold into the hallway.

·    There is a level access through entrance hall into kitchen with a slightly raised thresh.
The floor is tiled with terracotta pamett tiles. From the kitchen there is a small step up to the
wooden floor of the dining area – this floor is covered with a large natural seagrass rug.

·    From the kitchen to the lounge there are two small wooden steps up to the lounge area.
The floors to the lounge are wooden floorboards , covered in ½ of the lounge with a large natural seagrass rug.
The lounge leads to the ground floor bedroom which is all on one level. The bedroom floor is also wooden floorboards
covered in a neutral rug beside the bed area.

·    From the lounge there is a raised thresh covered in a natural seagrass flooring leading out to the front garden
via double opening French doors. There is another raised weatherbar thresh leading outside to a concrete threshold
leading to a step down onto stone flags & grass.

·    Access to first floor Bedroom & Bathroom – all of the bedrooms are via fifteen wooden stairs (approx 8inches
high each stair) from the hall to the landing. There is a handrail to the right hand side as you look up the stairs.
Once at the top of the stairs the bedroom & bathroom are on the same level with wooden thresholds to both rooms.

·    Bathroom -  with bath with shower over and also with seperate shower cubicle. Anti slip mats are provided.
The floor is tiled in large flat ceramic floor tiles (which can become slippery when wet – so care must be taken).
There is a step up to the bath & wash-handbasin area.

·    No smoking is permitted throughout the cottage.

·    In case of fire, there are fire blankets & fire extinguisher situated on the ground floor & first floor.
Torches are also available in these areas.

please note that the double bedroom and only bathroom is on the first floor, no lift is available.
We do have a single bedroom on the ground floor.
